About Me

I am an engineer by qualification. I had previously worked as R&D engineer, Quality Engineer and Senior Project engineer for over 10 years. I love my engineering jobs, but my real passions are education and publishing.

I began my publishing career journey about 20 years ago. My first publishing experience was with Eastview Publications (formerly owned by Singapore National Press) as a freelance science assistant editor. Ms. Cheong, the former Math & Sc Editor at Eastview believed in me and offered me an opportunity to try. I couldn't thank her enough for that (and we are still very good friends until today).

At Uni, I earned my pocket money by giving private tuition to primary and secondary children. The tutoring job helped me understand how students learn and what made them learn more effectively than others. Understanding the learning principles helped me in my writing.

After graduation from Uni, I worked two jobs simultaneously: I was an engineer in day-time and a writer at night. Many people have asked me why I work so much, or can't I give up the writing job as I already earned handsomely from my engineering job. I said to them, "writing is my passion and engineering job helps paying my bills". I never felt sorry for myself for working two jobs because I am happy. There's a saying, "If you like your job, you can easily add another 5 days to your week". True, isn't it?

Today, my passion for education and publishing has never diminished. I want to pursue a career in this line for as long as I could. I am still actively involve in writing and providing consulting services to publishers. I am doing this because it makes me happy as I get to share my knowledge with people. It is about giving back to the society.

If you are a teacher, a student, a parent or even a publisher who has great ideas about  learning and teaching, new ideas about books that you want to see in the bookshop, write me an email, ngcheekin@gmail.com and share those great ideas so that we can create great things for the students.

Thank you,
